New Beginnings Action Items

Below are 41 actions suggested in the 6 weeks of New Beginnings Meetings.
Condit can only do those for which we have good strong leadership.  Please read through the list and give them your consideration.  Which items do you have a passion to see Condit try?  On which items are you ready to work?  Which items are you willing to lead?

Action Items
Desired Outcome
1. Children’s song fest
1. Involve children in the area to celebrate Christ in song.  Draw in
families that have not been involved with Condit.
2. Worship in the Woods (or outside the Church walls such as Ruffner Park).        Leader:   Worship and Music Committee
2. Hold church services off site.  Draw in families that have not been involved with Condit.
3. Handy Helpers (repair, lawn care, meals, etc.) for people who can’t keep up with things
3. There are people in our community who cannot keep up with things around their home.  The leader of this activity will create a process to identify people in need and coordinate volunteers to take care of the needs. Donations are accepted.
4. One night a week evening care and homework help to provide parents of children free time to run errands.
Donations accepted.
4.  One night a week, offer to watch children at the Church for several hours to allow parents the time to run errands.  Activities could include singing, homework help, family style movies, etc.  Draw in families that have not been involved with Condit.  Organize volunteers to cover each week.
5.  Young families fellowship group
5.  Start a fellowship group for young families. Draw in families that have not been involved with Condit.
6.  Start a men’s Bible study group
6.  Start a Bible study fellowship group for men. Draw in men that have not been involved with Condit. 
7. Start a community garden
7. Start a community garden for people in the area. This might tie in well with action item #20 to have a presence at the Sunbury Farmers Market. Draw in families that have not been involved with Condit.
8. Children’s theatrical play
8. Put on a theatrical play in the Church. Draw in families that have not been involved with Condit.
9. Hold a talent show at Condit
9. Organize a talent show for families in the area. Draw in families that have not been involved with Condit.
10. Get involved with the Fallen Heroes group
10. Contact the Fallen Heroes group and see what Condit can do to support their mission.
11. Host a monthly community dinner
11. By hosting the community to a dinner monthly at the church, we may attract new members to Condit. The leader of this action would coordinate the activity.
12. Host 4-H group meetings in the church
12.  Identify 4H clubs in the area and invite them to hold their meetings in the church. Offer to publicize the club on the church website.
13. Host Boy Scout and or Girl Scout group meetings in the church
13. Identify scout clubs in the area and invite them to hold their meetings in the church. Offer to publicize the club on the church website.
14. Sponsor a Condit Blood Drive    Leader: Polly Horn
14. Set up a blood drive for the community at the Church
15. The Condit Church gets involved in area civic organizations
15. The action leader contacts local civic organizations to see if we can help in their mission.
16. Get out in the community to get to know our neighbors
16.  We believe that once people get to know members of the Condit Church personally, they would be more likely to attend the Church. The leader of this action will recommend ways to get to know our neighbors. One possible way would be to organize a progressive dinner. As an example, there are many church members living on Murphy road. Organize a dinner and invite all the people who live on the road to participate.
17. Volunteer at a school or the library to help children with reading
17.  Contact the schools and library to find out if there are reading programs that Condit volunteers could be involved in. Gather the information and organize the congregation to support the effort. Wear our blue Condit Church shirts while volunteering.
18. Find out the needs of local High School students
18.  The action leader researches the needs of area High School students and finds ways that Condit can meet those needs.
19. Organize whiffleball games on the Church’s ball field
19.  Attract young families and children in the area to play whiffleball once a week. This action could correspond with action number 4 as an activity for children while the parents are running errands.
20. Have a spot at the Farmer’s Market in Sunbury so that any church person could sell off extra vegetables or baked goods – Condit’s name would be there.
20.  By being involved at the Farmer’s Market, we may attract new members to Condit. The leader of this action would coordinate the activity.
21. More experienced church members volunteer to mentor young parents
21.  Raising children can be challenging. Church members whose kids have grown can be a great source of advice and information for less experienced parents. The leader of this action will create and manage a process to provide this service.
22. Provide funeral meals
22.  There are people in the area who don’t have a church or family to help out in the event of a death in the family. The action leader contacts the funeral home and offers Condit as a place where people can gather after a funeral for a meal. They organize people in the church to provide and serve the food. Donations are accepted.
23. Help older church members learn to use the internet.
23.  The leader of this action would set up a program to teach people how to use the internet.
24. Drive in movie night
24.  The leader of this action would set up a family movie night. The movie would be projected on the side of the church. Concessions would be available. It would attract young families. Donations accepted.
25. Provide counselors for the community or health nurse
25.  The leader of this action would research the need for counselors or health nurses in the community and meet the need.
26. When we have VBS, hold it in a rented circus tent. Then use the tent for Christian Music concerts.
26.  The leader of this action would rent the tent and coordinate the musical acts
27. Hold a Farmers Market at Condit.
27.  The leader of this action would coordinate a Farmers Market at Condit. It might fit in with actions 7 and 20.
28. Have a regular music jam session night at the Church.
28.  The leader of this action would coordinate a music jam night at the church. Goal would be to attract people who are not affiliated with Condit
29. Keep the Presbyterian woman sewing group going.
29.  The leader of this action would coordinate the actions of the sewing group. Goal would be to attract people who are not affiliated with Condit
30. Hold cooking classes at the church.
30.  The leader of this action would coordinate cooking classes held in the church. Goal would be to attract people who are not affiliated with Condit
31. Meals to go for busy families
31.  Busy families may not have time to prepare good meals. The leader of this action would set up a process to allow people to pre-order a supper time meal from the Condit website. The meal could be home made by church volunteers or purchased from various catering providers.
32. Set up a food truck corral in the Condit parking lot
32.  Mobil food trucks are very popular in Columbus. Setting up an event where trucks come to Condit might bring in new members. It can also be a source of food for people in the area. The leader of this action would coordinate the event.
33. Run a softball league.
33.  The leader of this action would coordinate a softball league at the Condit field. Goal would be to attract people who are not affiliated with Condit
34. Improve marketing presence on the internet
34.  Develop a presence on the internet that communicates what is going on in the area. Build traffic on the site so New Beginnings Actions can receive greater attention. Include links to other area websites. See if there is value to getting involved with ‘NextDoor Rattlesnake’. Promote social media. Utilize funny or thought provoking you tube videos. Draw in families that have not been involved with Condit.
35. Welcome baskets are delivered to new residents in the area        Leader:  Pat Monroe
35.   Start and maintain a process that monitors when houses are sold within a 10 mile radius of the church. Contact local businesses to see if they would donate items or coupons that can be part of the welcome basket. Identify appropriate items to include in the welcome basket. Create a pamphlet to include in the basket that promotes the Condit Church. Wear our blue Condit Church shirts while delivering the basket to the new residents.
36. Fellowship time prior to church.
36.  The leader of this action would coordinate fellowship activities at the Church. Goal would be to attract people who are not affiliated with Condit
37. Host a community Fall Festival
                   Leader:  Congregational Life Committee
37.  By hosting the community to a Fall Festival at the church, we may attract new members to Condit. The leader of this action would coordinate the activity

38. Hold a pig roast at the church.

 

38.  The leader of this action would coordinate a pig roast at the Church. Goal would be to attract people who are not affiliated with Condit. This action might work well with actions 20 and 27.
39. Vacation Bible School 3 times per year
39.  Vacation Bible School was successful this year. The leader of this action will coordinate the presentation of a Bible School like program throughout the year.
40. Junior church for children in the basement during the regular service     Leader:  Pam Sheets
40.  The idea is that it is a challenge for young parents to bring a rambunctious child to church. They can disrupt the service and embarrass the parents making them less likely to attend the service. The leader of this action will create a program to have alternative activities for kids in the basement during the service. The transition could happen right after the children’s service. They will also organize volunteers to be with the children.
41. A Sunday school lesson that teaches responsible use of social media.
41.  The leader of this action would teach kids to not use social media for bullying.
