Did You Know?
1.  Blood cannot be manufactured. It is only obtained through blood donors.

2. 43 local Columbus hospitals, including Nationwide Children’s Hospital along with 3 Trauma One Units depend on blood
provided by the local Red Cross. On an ongoing basis, each Hospital works with the American Red Cross to determine
the amount and type of blood required. So, it’s extremely important goals set by Blood Drives are met as the blood has
     been allocated.

3. Blood Shelf life is very short.
♥    Whole Blood has a life of 21 days from collection.
♥    Red Cells have a life of 42 days from collection.
♥    Platelets have a life of 5 days from collection.
♥    Plasma has a life of 1 year from collection.

4. Blood Usage is impressive. Think of the number of donors required in the following scenarios, knowing blood donors
typically provide 1 unit of blood at each donation.

♥    Automobile Accident victims can use between 4 to 100 units of blood.
♥    Sickle Cell Disease can use between 10 to 15 units of red blood cells.

♥    Leukemia-2 to 6 units of red blood cells and 6 to 8 units of platelets daily for 2 to 4 weeks

There is over a 90% chance in your lifetime, someone dear to you will need blood at some point.

So, please consider “Paying it Forward” for those you love.

There is an ongoing constant need to replenish the blood supply on a monthly basis, please give back.

You will be saving lives!!!!     Information provided by the American Red Cross
